COCO CHANEL FASHION WISDOM

COCO CHANEL FASHION WISDOM

Gabrielle Bonheur 'Coco' Chanel was a famous French fashion designer of women's clothes and founder of the Chanel brand.  She was a prolific fashion  creator and she extended her influence beyond couture clothing, realizing her aesthetic design in jewelry, handbags, and fragrance.  Chanel No. 5 is her signature scent and has become an iconic product.  She is the only fashion designer listed on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Coco Chanel's fashion advises were full of wisdom and wit that lead and guide us to have a better sense of style and fashion.  Here are some of her witty and valuable fashion gospel:

~
Some people think  luxury is the opposite of poverty.  It is not.  It is the opposite of vulgarity.

~
The most courageous act is still to think for yourself.  Aloud.

~
In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.

~
You live but once; you might as well be amusing.

~
I don't do fashion, I am fashion.

~
Only those with no memory insist on their originality.

~
Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.

~
A girl should be two things: who and what she wants.

~
Fashion changes, but style endures.

~
A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future.

~
Where should one use perfume?" a young woman asked. Where ever one wants to be kissed.

~
I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness.  And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny.  And it's best to be a pretty as possible for destiny.

~
Women think of all colors except the absence of color.  I have said that black has it all.  White too.  Their beauty is absolute.  It is the perfect harmony.

~
The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.

~
You can be gorgeous at thirty, charming at forty, and irresistible for the rest of your life.

~
I wanted to give a woman comfortable clothes that would flow with her body.  A woman is closest to being naked when she is well-dressed.

~
A woman can be over dressed but never over elegant.

~
Adornment, what a science! Beauty, what a weapon! Modesty, what elegance!

~
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only.  Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

~
A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.

~
Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.

~
Fashion has two purposes: comfort and love.  Beauty comes when fashion succeeds.

~
A beautiful dress may look beautiful on a hanger, but that means nothing.  It must be seen on the shoulders, with the movement of the arms, the legs, and the waist.

~
A woman should wear perfume wherever she wants to be kissed.

~
Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.

~
There is nothing more comfortable than a caterpillar and nothing more made for love than a butterfly.  We need dresses that crawl and dresses that fly.  Fashion is at once a caterpillar and a butterfly, caterpillar by day, butterfly by night.

~
Be classy.  Anything but trashy.

~
Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.

~
Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress.

~
A woman's education consists of two lessons: never leave the house without stocking, never go out without a hat.

~
If your sad, add more lipstick and attack.

~
Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.

~
A woman with good shoes is never ugly.

~
I love luxury.  And luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity.  Vulgarity is the ugliest word in our language.  I stay in the game to fight it.

~
Look for a woman in the dress.  If there is no woman, there is no dress.

~
A fashion that does not reach the streets is not fashion.
